About DYNT

Because we believe in the "Butterfly Effect" (the idea that every decision or action can be felt around the world), that creativity is a vital part of many of our lives,  and that we're mandated to tend to and keep the Earth, Darn Yarn Needles & Thread (DYNT) carries fiber arts supplies that are American made, Fair Trade or "green".
  • We look for American Made products because feel it's vital to support or families, neighbors, friends and aquaintances.  We've all heard how important it is to NOT outsource our jobs.  By purchasing American made products, we help the local and National economy and strengthen our manufacturing sector.  Buying American products keeps Americans working.  It's that simple.
  • We carry Fair Trade products for a similar reason, it supports our global neighbors.  There are some products that just aren't manufactured/sourced here - like silk.  I'm not against trading or exporting products, every country needs to be producing and all people need to be able to make a living.  That's were Fair Trade comes in.   The textile industry, like spices, coffee, and chocolate has a long history of worker abuses.  Fair Trade products are products that are produced in a manner that supports the workers.  Fair Trade workers receive a living wage and sometimes educational or medial assistance as well.
  • "Green" options are items that leave a lighter footprint on the Earth.  This is important to us because we treasure the Earth.  By choosing renewable, reusable, and Eco-friendly options we are  being good stewards of God's creation as a whole.
DYNT opened in March 2010 on the 2nd floor of the Markethouse on Main in Butler.  It started as a small 1 room shop, funded by a small inheritance from Aunt Sue.  Lisa, the owner, kept another part time job to pay the rent and purchase new inventory.  Lisa didn't need to take out a loan to stock DYNT or pay any of DYNT's bills.  DYNT quickly expanded to 3 rooms at this location.

While part of Lisa's original vision was to become a LYS (local yarn shop) in the city of Butler, like many visions, it was tweaked a bit.  In the fall of 2011, a friend purchased an historical building in Harmony, PA - about 15 miles from Butler.  After much loss of sleep, a very long pros/cons list and a lot of prayer, it was decided that DYNT would relocate to Harmony and become part of the Center of Harmony.

DYNT opened in the Center of Harmony in January of 2012.  The new location is on the first floor, in the historic opera house.  Other CoH tenants include The Wunderbar Coffee House, Just Pam, Pearlette, and SuMa Integral Medicine.
